If you can see blood in your urine, there can be several reasons.

  1. Urinary tract infection with bacterial being the most common type.
  2. Medications especially if you have started taking a new one.
  3. Kidney Diseases such as an infection, kidney stones, or cancer
  4. Enlarged prostate
  5. Inherited Conditions
  6. Serious exercise

The doctor will perform tests. He may order a Cystoscopy to look inside the bladder and urethra or he may order Kidney imaging test such as ultrasound, CT scan or MRI.

Depending on the causes, your doctor will may refer you to a specialist.

If the cause is an urinary infection, he may give you antibiotics. You may want to try  a cranberry supplement.
