SAndos Ripoff – A Vacation in Hell

The story of the vacation in hell started when Tiera, my granddaughter, and Daniel, her husband, went on a vacation to Sandos in Cancum. They had a suite, the service was great, the food was good, and they decided to buy a membership in the Sandos timeshaare. Since they had the membership and had a great time at Sandos, they decided to invite Raye, Tiera’s grandmother, and me, Tiera’s grandfather, to join then on another vacation at Sandos.

Day one on the vacation in hell

We arrived at Sandos at about 12:30am and checked in. On the way to our room, the driver of the tram, showed us the restaurants and told us the Italian restaurant was open until 3am. After we arrived at our room, we decided to walk to the Italian restaurant to eat. When we got there, we were told it closed at 2 am. Ok, the driver was wrong. No big deal. We walked back to our room.

The walk to the Italian restaurant was about 3 or 4 city blocks on a cobblestone walkway. When you consider that Raye is 73 and I am 92, it is a little inconvenient to walk it at 3 am to find out the restaurant is closed.

When we returned to our room, it was too cold so I looked to the thermostat to adjust the temperature. I couldn’t find one so I called the operator to ask how to change the temperature in the room. She said that she would send someone to our room to change the temperature. It was almost 4 am and we were tired so I told her I would call in the morning. My wife was  so cold that she to ok the bath towel and used it as a extra blanket.

Since they had their 8 month old son, Arkey, with them, Tiera and Daniel had ordered a crib for their room when they placed the  reservation.  When they checked in the found out the they wouldn’t have a crib that night. They had to sleep with Arkyn in the bed with them. None of them got much sleep that night.

Still, these were only minor inconveniences. Nothing to really complain about, but they indicated a lack of service and started the vacation in hell.

Tiera went to the concierge and made reservations for for each four restaurants. The first was for that night at 7;30 pm at the Brazilian Steak House. We planned on meeting there at 7;30 pm. Raye and I arrived about 7:20 and there was a very  long line waiting to get in. Ray e got in the line and I went up to the front to check on our reservation. I found out that people with reservations went in first so I waited until the opened.

When I was ready to be seated, the lady told me that I didn’t have a reservation. I called Tiera and she had a reservation slip in their room and she went back to get it. I told the lady that we had a reservation confirmation slip and my granddaughter was bringing it. She said that she would let us in when we produced the slip. When Tiera arrived with the confirmation slip, she was told that we had arrive before 7:40 to get in on our reservation.

She did make us reservations at the Mexican Restaurant, but she would not seat us because this restaurant was full. When started walking to the Mexican Restaurant. It was about a 10 minute walk so we arrived at a little after 8 pm. We ordered and talked while we waited for the food to be served.

At about 9 pm, we asked about our food and we were told that it would be a few more minutes. We talked some more and, at about 9:15 pm, we asked about our food again. Once again, we were told that it would be a few more minutes. At about 9:30, Arkeyn started crying because he was tired and ready to go to sleep. Tiera decided to take Arkyn home to put him to sleep. She asked Daniel to bring her the food when it was delivered.

Finally about 10 pm, the food was delivered and Daniel took his food and Tiera’s food with him to their room. Raye and I ate and headed back to our room. Just before we got to our room in unit 17, They pathway changed and had another level next to it. See the picture.

I step on the second pathway not knowing it was lower. I stumbled and fell hitting on the right side of my face. My nose felt wet and I touched it and saw blood. As I leaned over, the blood started pouring out of a cut on my face and was creating a large pool of blood on the ground.

Raye went to our room and got a wet  cold towel which I put on my face to stop the bleeding. As I ttied to get up, two men gripped  me and helped me get up. One stood behind me to keep me from falling back and the other one, who was a paramedic, examined my face. He said i had a large gash over my eye and that it may need one stitch. He also checked me for a concussion. They helped  me to my room and told me to put a bandage on my cut and get some medical help.

As I laid in the bed, Raye tried to call for help. Every number listed on the phone was busy so Raye called Tiera on her cell phone and told her what had happened.  Daniel then walked to the lobby to get help. The man at the lobby didn’t seem to  be concerned and told Daniel to go to Customer Service. When he went to Customer Service, they told him that the doctor was gone for the day and we should call and ambulance to take me to the hospital.

While Daniel was going to the lobby, Raye went to the Mexican Restaurant to get help.  She returned with a man from the restaurant who gave us a bandage and some medicine. Raye put the bandage on my cut.

Then, a doctor arrived at our room with the resort manager. The doctor examined my face and told me that I may need one stich. He put a new bandage on my cut, give me some pills for the pain, and told me to see him in the morning.
