Reduce Stress and Meditate
Stress is a necessary evil. You need stress in certain dangerous situations, but too much stress is not healthy. Richard Shelton, MD, vice chair for research in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alabama Birmingham; states that the body’s fight-or-flight response is meant to be protective, not harmful.
It’s only when stress becomes chronic, or when we feel we’re no longer in control of a situation, that it negatively affects our health and well being
The negative effects are that stress may cause headaches and increase susceptibility to colds, but it may also be a cause of these health problems.
- hair loss
- heart disease
- hyperthyroidism
- obesity
- sexual dysfunction
- tooth and gum disease
- ulcers
Exercise is one way of managing stress, but an easy and convenient way is meditation. Meditation has many health benefits because it reduces your stress and, therefore, reduces the negative effects stress has on your body.
There are many different types of meditation which are all helpful in coping with stress. If you chose a deep breathing type of mediation with sun exposure, you get the benefits of step 1 sunshine, step 2 oxygen, and step 5 mediation at one time.
If you also add Step 3 exercise, you have a very healthly workout that should benefit your mitochondria.
